How we met

We first met in Washington, D.C. in 2021, volunteering side by side through Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings. What began as shared service and familiar faces at events slowly became something steadier — five years of crossing paths, working alongside one another, and growing into versions of ourselves we didn’t yet fully understand.

Falling in love

In the spring of 2025, the friendship we’d built over those years quietly turned into something more. After first meeting in Washington, D.C. years earlier, we found ourselves there again four years later, reconnecting at a completely different point in our lives.

Weekends were often spent driving through the Virginia countryside, trying new wineries, slowing down, and learning how much we valued a quieter kind of life together. Somewhere between long drives, conversations that lasted for hours, and time spent out in nature, the steadiness we had always found in each other became something undeniable.

It was also a season of transition. Max was beginning a new chapter in his career while Cammie had just finished school and was looking ahead to what came next in life. Having each other during that time became deeply grounding. What started as friendship grew into partnership, and the foundation for everything that came next.

A life in Japan

Not long after, we made one of the biggest decisions of our lives together: moving to Japan. Since July 2025 we’ve been building a life abroad — learning a new rhythm, discovering new places, and finding home in each other wherever we land.

Some of our favorite days are the quiet ones — staying in, cooking together, and sharing a home with our two cats, Muffin and Mochi, who run the household in every way that matters.

The proposal

Cammie believed she was going to a simple photo session with Candice and Christy during their visit to Japan. It felt casual and unassuming, something planned just to capture memories together, with no indication of what had been set in motion for months.

We walked onto a bridge we had unknowingly talked about weeks earlier. A photographer was already in place. Even with people passing through in the distance, the moment felt still and focused, as if everything had narrowed to just the two of us. Afterwards, we walked along the coastline beneath cherry blossoms and let the day settle into something we would understand more fully with time.
